How to Keep Your Coffee Fresh

A major key to excellent coffee is freshness. Oxygen is the staling agent for coffee. That is why it is advantageous to join our Coffee Club. You will enjoy receiving the coffee of your choice delivered right to your home on a regular basis. This assures you that you will always have the freshest coffee available.
In order to maintain our standards of freshness, we recommend the following:

  • Storing coffee fresh in airtight containers in a cool and dry place.
  • Keeping coffee away from the following:
  • Extreme temperatures (too hot or too cold)
  • Light
  • Moisture
  • Strong odors
  • Do not freeze or refrigerate the coffee.
  • Purchasing coffee from our Coffee Club is recommend, then grinding the beans immediately before brewing because whole beans stay fresh longer than ground coffee.

Tips for Brewing the Perfect Cup

  • Start with fresh roasted coffee:
Air and moisture stale coffee . Keep it in an airtight container on the counter or in a cupboard.
  • Make sure your equipment is clean: Accumulated coffee oils contribute a stale taste to fresh coffee. Baking soda and non-abrasive sponges will keep your brewing equipment sparkling. Running vinegar through your brewer (and rinsing thoroughly) helps to remove any buildup (this should be done monthly).
  • Use water that tastes good: Bottled water or a filter system works best. Impurities in hard and soft waters affect the taste of your coffee. Remember -- coffee is 98% water.
  • Brew coffee at the correct temperature: 200 degrees Fahrenheit is ideal; this means bringing the water to a boil and waiting a minute before brewing.
  • Use the correct grind and brewing time: Different brewing techniques require different grinds. Espresso brewing requires a fine grind whereas drip methods require medium grind. We'll grind your bean order (or part of your bean order) to match your brewing process.
  • Use the correct amount of coffee: Two tablespoons per 6 oz. cup is standard. You can use more if you like stronger coffee or use cream and sugar, but don't use less!
  • Serve it fresh: Reheated coffee will lose flavor and taste bitter. If you leave coffee on a heater for over twenty minutes, the same thing happens. A flavorful cup is a cup that has been freshly brewed. The best way to get that good cup is to brew the coffee and save it in a preheated thermos or carafe.
